Cornish Pirates coach Mark Hewitt has admitted his public comments about Doug Sanft and Aisea Havilli were made in the heat of the moment.

Hewitt openly criticised the pair after last week's defeat to Rotherham.

He told BBC Radio Cornwall: "Sometimes you say things that you regret afterwards, but it is the same people making mistakes.

"We've chatted and they're going to continue working hard and they want to get back in the team."

The Pirates currently lie eighth in National League One and have lost their last three home games but Hewitt remains confident that result will improve.

"Everyone's saying it's a disaster, yes we're disappointed we haven't played to the level we know we can do.

"We've shown glimpses of that throughout all our games. I think those are the positives we've got to keep reflecting on.

It won't be long before we put a really good performance together."

The Pirates travel to fifth-placed Doncaster on Saturday.
