All Blacks lock Jason Eaton will miss this year's World Cup after tearing knee ligaments in a Super 14 match.
Eaton fell awkwardly during a 22-21 win by the Hurricanes over the Highlanders and suffered cruciate ligament damage.
He is the third All Blacks lock to sustain a serious injury recently, with the World Cup due to start in France in just over four months.
James Ryan has also been ruled out with a knee problem, and Chris Jack's season is over after a hamstring injury.
Eaton, 24, said: "Obviously, I'm very disappointed. I'm seeing a surgeon next week and we will take things from there.
"My focus will be on getting through the rehab work so that I'm in good shape for the start of the 2008 Super 14."
