Leinster send Glasgow reeling
Former Lions prop Paul Wallace started for Leinster
Leinster 35-13 Glasgow
Leinster booked a return trip to Lansdowne Road for an all-Irish Celtic League final next week with an impressive victory over Glasgow on Friday. The hosts were gifted three tries by the Scots, including two in the early stages. Full-back Girvan Dempsey went over with the first, which was converted by stand-off Nathan Spooner. Centre Brian O'Driscoll bagged the second. And although Tommy Hayes reduced the arrears with a penalty, Spooner sent over a penalty of his own to put the Irish side back in command. Brian O'Meara moved Leinster 15 points clear with another penalty before the break.
And despite a long-range Hayes penalty just after the restart, Shane Horgan went over before another Spooner conversion. Winger Mike Bartlett gave Glasgow hope with a try, converted by Hayes. But Denis Hickie went over for Leinster near the end. Spooner converted and then added a penalty to seal a place in the final. Munster take on Ulster at Lansdowne Road in the Celtic League's other semi-final on Saturday. Glasgow coach Richie Dixon refused to make excuses for his side. Although the Scots won an equal share of the ball, they gifted the home side three tries. "We were well below the standard you need to compete at this level - and well below what we are capable of," said Dixon. "Leinster are a very strong and clinical team and if you give them chances they will take them "Obviously the guys are bitterly disappointed, and that is the way they should be feeling."
