Rooney began his career at Featherstone Rovers

Wakefield Wildcats stand-off Jamie Rooney is closing in on a first-team return, two months after his heart stopped during knee surgery. The 28-year-old had to be resuscitated and has now had the operation. "If my heart hadn't stopped in the operating theatre I'd have been back playing five weeks ago," Rooney told BBC Radio Leeds. "But hopefully I'm fit and healthy now and I can get back playing as soon as I can. I can't wait to get back playing." Rooney added: "It's been a nightmare. "A week before the season started I was really looking forward to it and I jarred my knee and I'm still here now not having played a game. "It's been devastating news for me really." Wakefield signed Rooney for £10,000 in December 2002 from Featherstone Rovers.
