McRae wants Myler future sorted

Salford coach Shaun McRae wants a speedy resolution to Richie Myler's future as he feels speculation over the scrum-half is unsettling the player.

Myler, 19, has become hot property after a record-breaking display in England's 66-12 win over France.

Salford have offered him a deal to become the best paid player in their history and are awaiting an answer.

"What we have to do is deal with it very quickly for the sake of us and Richard," said McRae.

"The thing is, it's not going to go away until Richard either says 'yes' or, in the worse-case scenario, he says 'thanks but no thanks' and then we have to respond.

"But it's not easy. He's been courted because he's a gifted player. He's a talent in the game we've all seen come along very quickly.

To have done what he has done in this game already is just an amazing feat really

"It doesn't surprise me he gets this attention and it doesn't surprise me the situation we're in.

"I think, if I was in that situation as a young boy, I reckon I'd be losing some sleep. I don't think he's absolutely settled."

Myler scored a hat-trick of tries and kicked eight goals against France to boost his already blossoming reputation.

Signed from Widnes in 2008, he has scored 12 tries so far in his first Super League season for the Reds.

But he could not prevent Salford suffering a defeat at Hull in the Super League on Friday and McRae added: "I think he was a bit flat.

"I half thought about not playing him this week.

"He came back from that Test last week and he's getting attention for the right reasons and he's getting attention for what's happening off the field.

"He looked a little flat in the first part of the week. I don't think he was poor, I just thought he was a bit flat.

"He just looked a little bit out of sorts and it's something we'll have to continually assess. He's under a fair bit of pressure at the moment for a young man and maybe something will sort itself out in a short space of time."

Myler is under contract until the end of next season and football director Steve Simms is currently waiting for a response to the contract offer from Myler's agent, Martin Offiah, the former Wigan and Great Britain winger.

"Let's make a decision and respond accordingly," said Simms.

"I can only state what I've said all the time - Richard is part of the club, he's signed until the end of next season, he's just been made a tremendous offer which indicates how much we value him and indicates how much we want to build a team around him.

"The ball's in his court now, I don't think Salford can do any more than what they've done.

"I'm sure a decision on that will be made very soon."
