Smith has won the Grand Final and World Club Challenge with Leeds

Leeds Rhinos scrum-half Rob Burrow says team-mate Lee Smith will be "greatly missed" when he leaves the club at the end of the Super League season.

The 22-year-old utility back has announced he will not renew his contract at Headingley and has been linked with a switch to rugby union.

"Lee has become a great player for us and will be greatly missed," Burrow told the BBC's Super League Show.

"It something he wants to do and good luck to him."

Burrow added: "He has rightly played for England last year and was set to just get better and better in rugby league.

"I'm sure he will do very well in union."

Smith has been rumoured with a move to both London Wasps and Saracens, who play in the Premiership.

Former Leeds and Bradford Bulls half-back Iestyn Harris also switched codes in 2001 to play for Cardiff Blues and represented Wales before his move back to League in 2004.

"Lee has the ability to play various positions in union and that is in his favour," said Harris.

"It will certainly take him at least 12 months to settle in and get up to speed with the game and he will be sorely missed by Leeds.

"Moving codes is a personal thing, you either want to do it or not. I know I certainly did and Lee looks to be the same."
