Hull FC fullback Steve Prescott has been forced to retire from the game.
The 30-year-old has spent almost a year out of the game after breaking his kneecap playing for Lancashire in last season's Origin game at Odsal.
The Ireland international, who also played for St Helens and Wakefield, had two spells with the Black and Whites and scored more than 600 points.
"I am disappointed but I have to come to terms with it and get on with life and the future," said Prescott.
Hull FC director of rugby Shaun McRae, who coached Prescott for both St Helens and Hull FC, said he was devastated to see him leave the game in such a cruel fashion.
He said: "It is tragic because Steve is an outstanding player; he is a model professional, a great athlete, a prolific try scorer, a good goal kicker, a great team man and a terrific person."
