Youngquest was making his home debut for Castleford

Nick Youngquest scored two tries as Castleford earned their second win of the new Super League season at the expense of local rivals Huddersfield.

Youngquest crossed to give the Tigers the lead, with the extras kicked by Kirk Dixon, who also added a penalty.

The visitors got back in it through Jermaine McGillvary's try.

But Youngquest's second and a Joe Arundel score put Castleford in firm control, before McGillvary gave the Giants a late consolation score.

Both sides enjoyed victories at the Millennium Stadium on the opening weekend of the season, but it was Castleford who conquered the filthy conditions to ensure it was they who emerged with their 100% record intact.

They took the lead when the ever-creative Rangi Chase put in a well-placed kick to the corner for Youngquest to gather and cross unopposed for the try.

After adding the extras, a Dixon penalty extended the Tigers' lead as the handling errors increased and the game became increasingly scrappy.

Trailing 8-0 at the break, the Giants improved in the second half and pulled a score back when McGillvary took Scott Grix's long pass and finished in the corner, with Danny Brough adding the conversion.

Huddersfield stand-off Kevin Brown ought to have given his side the lead but he dropped Lee Gilmour's pass with the line at his mercy as the Tigers made him pay.

When Giants full-back Grix was tackled over his own line, Youngquest touched the ball down and the video referee awarded the try despite suggestions of an illegal ball steal.

Huddersfield had barely recovered Dixon reached Danny Orr's high kick and palmed back for Arundel to score.

Dixon was off target with both conversion attempts but found the mark with a penalty after Huddersfield hooker Shaun Lunt was sin-binned for a late tackle on Chase.

But the Giants had the last word, with McGillvary going over after gathering Brown's speculative kick and touching down.

Castleford coach Terry Matterson:
"It was a pretty complete performance. I thought the halves were outstanding.

"It was a pretty dominant performance, although the scoreline probably doesn't reflect that with the try at the end.

"I think we missed three tackles all game. It was a pretty satisfying performance. I'm pleased with where we're at but we need to be aware that it's only round two."

Huddersfield Giants coach Nathan Brown:
"Sides that are hungrier and keenest generally get the benefit of the doubt.

"You could see after five minutes that we weren't where we needed to be. We put in a good 10 minutes after half-time but, other than that, it was very disappointing.

"Full credit to Cas, they were too good for us on the night. It was a good lesson for us. They were more hungry than we were and we gave away more penalties."
