Wigan scored 45 points without reply, with Pat Richards scoring a hat-trick, to record a stunning comeback win over Hull at the JJB Stadium.

Hull were 16-2 ahead after just 31 minutes with Lee Radford, Craig Hall and Willie Manu all scoring.

But stand-off Trent Barrett scored twice at the end of the first half to drag the home side back into the game.

Wigan then ran riot in the second half, Richards scoring three tries while Mick Higham and Chris Ashton also crossed.

Wigan had gone into the game with just two wins from their six Super League matches at the JJB and it looked as if they were on the way to a fifth home defeat of the season after a dismal opening 35 minutes.

The home faithful had even started to boo when Manu battled his way through four missed tackles for Hull's third try.

But Barrett led the fightback as he twice barged his way over with the half drawing to a close.

Richards maintained Wigan's momentum with two tries in the first eight minutes of the second half, the second coming after wing Mark Calderwood reacted the quickest to an attempt at goal which bounced back off the posts.

Richards added another goal before Higham touched down with 20 minutes to go, leaving Hull with a mountain to climb.

Barrett added a drop goal before full-back Chris Ashton finished off after Gareth Hock intercepted a Hull attack.

And Richards completed his hat-trick with the last move of the match and then stepped up to kick the conversion for a personal haul of 30 points.

"Even at 16-2 down, I was pretty confident if we could cure a couple of things that we would get back in the game.

"It's a huge lesson for our team in relation to looking after the ball. The two tries just before half-time gave us some momentum.

"Trent Barrett made a couple of mistakes in our half but he put it right by getting over the whiteash and I thought Iafeta Paleaaesina gave us a huge lift but the whole team deserves credit."

"We didn't handle him well at all.

"He's a very good player and his tries took the wind out of our sail. They've some good guys around him but he's a smart player.

"They had a lot of possession in the middle of the match and that's where the damage was done. We're bitterly disappointed."
