Leicester's Mark Selby gained revenge over John Higgins for his defeat in the World Championship final by knocking the Scot out of the Shanghai Masters.
Selby beat the two-time world champion 5-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the first tournament of the new season.
Meanwhile, Selby will be joined in the last 16 by Stuart Bingham who edged out Stuart Pettman 5-4
Dave Harold thumped Steve Davis 5-1 and Wales' Ryan Day beat Ian McCulloch 5-3 to progress in China.
