Welsh Open changes venue
Stephen Hendry
Stephen Hendry is the reigning Welsh Open champion
Wales' premier snooker tournament will be held at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, next season (19-25 January).

Cardiff International Arena has hosted the Welsh Open for the past four years, the venue winning praise after the event moved there from Newport Leisure Centre in 1999.

Financial considerations have prompted the move across town to Sophia Gardens.

The World Snooker Association is also looking for a new sponsor for the tournament, restrictions on cigarette advertising meaning that Regal's long-standing relationship with the Open has come to an end.
