Sheffield Steelers struck a last-minute goal to beat Cardiff Devils on Sunday, but had to settle for second place in the Elite League behind Coventry Blaze.
Blaze's 4-2 win over Belfast Giants secured their third title in four years, putting Steelers out of reach.
Dan Tessier hit Steelers' winner in the Bay with 21 seconds left on the clock.
Jonathan Phillips and Ryan Finnerty (2) also scored for Steelers, with Sylvain Deschatelets, Tyson Teplitsky and Mike Garrow on target for the Devils.
