France overcome Britain in final
Sarah Burrett
Britain found the going difficult
France underlined their favourite tag by beating Great Britain 55-34 to win the women's wheelchair basketball title at the Visa Paralympic World Cup.

Team GB held France to 9-9 after the first quarter, but the French established their authority in the next quarter, going 31-14 ahead.

Britain battled hard, with Sally Wager and Caroline Matthews scoring eight points each, but France stayed firm.

Valerie Monnier top scored for the French with 14 points.

Wager refused to be downbeat after losing to France in the final of the women's wheelchair basketball.

"They shot really well and there was nothing we could do," she said. "We would have preferred gold but silver will do me.

"We're a new team with a lot of new players so this is fantastic really.

"It's really good to have a tournament over here. It was nerve wracking but it was great to have support in the crowd."
