Bradley Wiggins currently rides for Team Garmin-Slipstream

British Cycling coach Shane Sutton says he expects four of Great Britain's leading riders to join Team Sky.

The new cycling team will launch next year with the aim of creating a British winner of the Tour de France by 2014.

Sutton revealed that he expects David Millar, Bradley Wiggins, Steve Cummings and Geraint Thomas to form the core of an initial 25-rider roster.

"All these guys are going to move on to the Sky pro road team, maybe I shouldn't have said that!" Sutton said.

Thomas and Cummings currently both ride for Team Barloworld, while Millar and Wiggins are team-mates at Team Garmin-Slipstream.

Wiggins took two gold medals at the Beijing Olympics and Thomas one, while Cummings is also an Olympian and Millar has become one of the top road racers in Europe after serving a two-year drugs ban between 2004 and 2006.

Sutton also revealed that they one day hope to entice Mark Cavendish to join the new British-based team once his current deal expires.

Cavendish, who won four stages of the 2008 Tour de France, is contracted with the American-owned Colombia Highroad team until 2010.

"When Mark wants to come home... we can accommodate and we'll make sure there's a team good enough for Mark," Sutton said.

"This guy's the best in the world and we wouldn't want to let him down.

"We need to put the right people in place for him to come home and feel he's got a winning unit around him as well."

Team Sky, to be funded by media organisation BSkyB, will be managed by the sport's Olympic performance director Dave Brailsford.

The team will initially contain 25 riders, this number due to rise to 30. It will have a British core of riders and management, but also include international cyclists.
