Middlesbrough playing for pride

Roller hockey
Middlesbrough were beaten 12-1 in the first leg in Germany

Middlesbrough Roller Hockey Club are hoping to restore their pride in the second leg of the CERS Cup against German side RESG Walsum on Saturday.

Boro were beaten 12-1 in Germany in the first leg but captain John Jones is keen for his side give a good account of themselves in the return fixture.

"I think some of the players were caught off-guard and didn't realise what a step up this is," he said.

"The home leg will be a completely different game."

Walsum, a semi-professional German team, will be entering the game confident that their place in the second round is secure.

But the Middlesbrough players are determined to boost their reputation as an emerging force in European roller hockey.

"This time we will have the home support and have had four weeks to put right the mistakes we made in Germany," Jones added.

"Although the deficit may be too much to haul back we are hoping to give them a close game.

"It will be a reminder that Middlesbrough are not going to roll over and make it easy for them."

The game is due to start at 1630 GMT on Saturday at Eston Sports Centre, Middlesbrough.
