Taylor was always in control

The 10-time world champion - who beat Warriner by the same score in the quarters last year - now goes on to face the in-form Wayne Mardle.

"I'm in the semi-final and my game's coming together now," said Taylor.

"Wayne's going to have a hard game on his hands. He'll have a lot of support and it promises to be a good game."

Taylor took the opening set with a 13-darter and followed up with a 3-2 success in the second.

It was all Taylor in the third and a superb 122 checkout and 11-darter moved him within two sets of victory.

But Warriner, the 2001 World Grand Prix champion, refused to give in and reeled off three straight legs to pull a set back.

Taylor stamped his authority on the game with a 3-0 success in the fifth set though and clinched it with a 110 outshot.

The first four legs of the next set were shared but Taylor scored heavily and hit double four to seal victory.

Mardle coasted through to the semis by beating Simon Whatley 5-1.

Mardle, who said he felt light-headed and sick in his previous match, was never really tested by his opponent.

"I feel a lot better than I did but the scoring and the doubles still weren't up to scratch tonight," said Mardle.

"If I'm going to beat Alan Warriner or Phil Taylor in the next game I'm going to have to go up 20 or 30%."

Bob Anderson advanced to the last four by beating Peter Manley 5-2.

Anderson, the 1986 world champion, has enjoyed a recent climb up the rankings and looked back to his very best against Manley.

"I made a decision to fight and show the young players I can still play," said Anderson, 56.

"It has worked out and my game has improved. I've not won anything yet but people know I'm back."

Anderson will now play Kevin Painter who beat Mark Dudbridge 5-1.

Painter dropped just three legs in the opening two sets as he raced to a comfortable win over the player who knocked out last year's champion John Part.

"I'm delighted to be in the semi-finals again," said Painter.

"Mark beat Steve Beaton comfortably last night, so I'm pleased to have got through.

"I would have been pleased with 5-4, but 5-1 is great."
