Scottish slalom canoeist Campbell Walsh won the first major international title of his career with gold at the European Championships in Krakow on Sunday.
Thirty-year-old Walsh, silver medallist at Athens 2004, performed a spectacular second run down the Polish course to narrowly beat Italy's Daniele Molmenti.
"After several podium finishes over the years, but never a gold medal, it feels good," Walsh wrote on his website.
His win followed disappointment for the rest of the GB team at the competition.
No British canoeists reached the finals of the women's K1, men's C1 and men's C2 finals.
But Walsh came sixth in his semi-final, then powered through the latter half of his second run in the final to record a time of 89.88 seconds, producing a combined time of 181.63 - enough to win by 13 hundredths of a second.
Fellow Britons Andrew Hadfield and Richard Hounslow finished 14th and 33rd respectively.
Walsh has already earned his country's nomination for this summer's Beijing Olympics following British selection trials last month.
In the women's K1, Fiona Pennie - who has also qualified for Beijing - missed the final by two tenths of a second.
And David Florence, who will compete in the men's C1 category at the Olympics, finished a disappointing 37th in Krakow, behind team-mates Stuart McIntosh (20th) and Mark Proctor (23rd).
