Loeb is battling for the lead, with one eye on the championship
|
Citroen driver Sebastien Loeb leads the Rally of Corsica after the first day.
The Frenchman battled with Ford driver Markko Martin before the Estonian spun on stage four, dropping from first to seventh place.
Martin moved up to fifth with fastest times on the next two stages while Loeb came under pressure from the second Ford of Francois Duval.
World champion Marcus Gronholm is third in a Peugeot, ahead of Citroen's Spanish veteran Carlos Sainz.
World championship leader Richard Burns is sixth, ahead of the third Citroen of Scot Colin McRae and Petter Solberg's Subaru, which has been repaired after a heavy crash in testing.
Loeb trails Burns by just two points in the championship - the difference between first and second places.
