Track will boost Comets - Doolan

Kevin Doolan
Doolan topped the Premier League averages last season

Workington Comets rider Kevin Doolan believes the quality of the track at Derwent Park will be help them in this season's Premier League campaign.

The Australian broke the track record during Monday's 53-39 win against Berwick and is confident the squad can impress on the new surface this season.

"The staff have worked their backsides off to make the track the best in the country," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"We've worked closely to get what the crowd want, which is fast racing."

Next up for the Comets is a trip to Teesside to face the Redcar Bears on Thursday evening and, despite their recent promising form, Doolan says the Comets must expect a tough encounter.

"Redcar are a good side, but everybody is there to be beaten," he said.

"Speedway is a funny game, you can have good nights and bad nights, and the difference is very little.

"You've got to go there with a positive attitude and if it doesn't go our way then we have to take as much as we can scratch out of it."
