Hamilton is looking for his third-straight win

Hamilton heads to Magny-Cours 10 points clear in the championship race having won at Canada and Indianapolis.

"I quite like the track and I've had some very interesting experiences here before," he told BBC Radio Five Live.

"Our last two races were fantastic and we are trying to continue the momentum and score as many points as we can."

The 22-year-old cruised to the GP2 title last season although he endured a difficult weekend at Magny-Cours.

"The French round of the GP2 championship last season was not my best weekend as I had a coming together in the first race," he told reporters ahead of practice on Friday.

"That led to me starting race two from 19th. I did make my way up through the field to fifth to score some points, so it is possible to overtake here.

"Although you always want to be on pole, you can pass at Magny-Cours, while there is a short pit lane that means there are more strategy options."

Hamilton has finished on the podium in all seven of his starts and has enjoyed a virtually flawless start to his career.

But he insists he is working hard to remain focussed on each race until the end of the season and is shocked at his rise to the top of the standings.

"I'm really surprised to see myself with such a gap in the championship and surprised that I've done so well in the last seven Grands Prix," he added.
