Burti leaves Ferrari
The Formula One world champions named Brazilian compatriot Felipe Massa as his replacement on Thursday. Burti, 27, said on his website: "I had a deal with Ferrari for the 2003 season but I decided to return to racing. "Due to my good relationship with the team, they agreed to release me and we will keep a close link for future opportunities with Ferrari and Maserati." Burti raced for F1 teams Jaguar and Prost before suffering a serious accident at the 2001 Belgian Grand Prix. He joined Ferrari as their second test driver, alongside experienced Italian Luca Badoer, in December 2001 after being recommended by compatriot Rubens Barrichello. Ferrari are scheduled to launch their new F2003 car at Maranello on Friday.
Massa, who failed to secure the last vacant seat on the grid with Jordan this week, had originally been expected to be announced at the same time.
