Coventry Bees and Peterborough Panthers have threatened legal action after their exclusion from next season's Elite League was confirmed. In a joint statement the two clubs said they have engaged a specialist competition law barrister. The row with the British Speedway Promoters Association centres on rule changes for next season. A BSPA spokesman told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire they still intend to go ahead with an eight-team league. A statement on the Coventry website said they were still waiting to hear from the BSPA over an offer to enter mediation. "If we are unable to achieve resolution by way of mediation we assure our fans that we shall do all that is possible to seek legal redress as advised by our legal team and specialist counsel," it added. But the spokesman for the BSPA said: "With regret and sadness nothing has changed since the two clubs walked out of the AGM and therefore failed to declare their intentions to compete in the Elite League next season. "It was their own decision. We hope it's not the end of speedway at the two tracks and that they may return to the Elite League in 2012. Next season's Elite League will go ahead with eight clubs."
