Louis has called for changes to the Elite League set-up
|
With a relegation play-off looming Chris Louis has demanded a confident performance from his Ipswich Witches side against Belle Vue on Thursday. The Witches are waiting to face the Premier League play-off winners for the right to remain in the Elite League. Director of speedway Louis told BBC Radio Suffolk: "I'll be expecting our lads to put them to the sword. "We want a big win, not just a win, a big win at home to Belle Vue to try to find confidence before the play-offs." The Aces could be there for the taking after their poor showing in the 37-53 home defeat by top-four hopefuls Coventry on Monday. Although Ipswich will be without influential pole Chris Slabon who is recovering from a broken little finger on the left hand and several broken bones in his right hand.

There's lots of talk about a super league at the moment, which could be exciting if it is handled the right way

Louis admits it is a blow: "He had found his feet. He had taken a couple of meetings to really get going, so we're very disappointed for him." The Witches chief, along with his team manager Pete Simmons, has expressed his frustration with the set-up of the Elite League. Throughout this campaign both men have talked up the idea of an expanded top-flight and will look to put forward their ideas at November's promoters' meeting. "Things have undoubtedly got to change quite radically, there are lots of different ideas as to which direction the sport in this country should go," said Louis. "There's lots of talk about a super league at the moment, which could be exciting if it is handled the right way."
