Edward Kennett top-scored for Bees with 12, paid 13

Lakeside Hammers maintained their unbeaten home record with a 48-42 defeat of Coventry Bees, who clinched a point on a dramatic final lap. Two 5-1 advantages in heats eight and 10 edged the home side ahead. Five Jonas Davidsson wins and two under-pressure wins for Kaukko Niemenan were the pick of the home riders. But Edward Kennett picked himself up off the floor to ensure he and Rory Schlein got the better of Adam Shields in the last race to get a bonus point. Hammers had looked set to pick up all three points from the night, but had to settle for two before captain Shields broke down in the final heat. Shields and Lee Richardson also picked up heat victories for the home side against the Bees, who were without two of their regular side through injury. The result leaves both sides level on 19 points in the Elite League, with the Essex side fourth and Coventry fifth. The Hammers were dealt a blow ahead of the meeting with news that Joonas Kylmakorpi had not yet received medical clearance to return from his elbow injury.
