Wales coach Graham Henry has dismissed fears the new Celtic League will lead to an increase in the number of games for Wales' top players.

The league is scheduled to start in August and it was originally assumed clubs would play each other on an away or home basis - with both home and away fixtures being fulfilled at Welsh-Scottish level.

But Henry has called for the number of Welsh-Scottish league games to be reduced to maintain the current status quo.

"The number of games played per season will be exactly the same and if they do it correctly, the number of local league games will decrease," Henry said.

"I assume it will either be one round of home or away games in the Welsh-Scottish league or they will divide the competition into two sixes and play home and away," he added.

Henry has long stressed his belief that Europe's top players play too many games and dubbed any increase in fixtures "not practical".

Henry's views contrasted sharply with those of Derrick King, chairman of the Welsh Premier Division clubs.

King, who is also chaiman of Bridgend, welcomed the extra revenue the increase in fixtures would bring, with clubs envisaging a minimum of 33 games a season.
