South African Retief Goosen eased his way to a comfortable eight-shot win in the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth. Leading by a tour-record 13 strokes going into the final round, he resumed with a double bogey six but was never going to be caught.
He eventually finished on 14-under-par after hitting a 73, claiming the 150,000 first prize from Sweden's Pierre Fulke, who pipped Sergio Garcia for second spot. "It was really funny having such a big lead and, in a way, it was difficult playing with a big lead knowing you might have other problems on your back," said Goosen. The victory moves the South Africa, the US Open champion, back to the top of the European Order of Merit he won last year.
