Kelly Smith ended her Arsenal career with a hat-trick as the Gunners won the Premier League Cup for the 10th time with a 5-0 win over Doncaster.

The striker is joining US professional club Boston Breakers and she signed off with a match-winning performance as she took her season's goal tally to 31.

"I'm sad to be leaving but this was a fantastic way to end," said Smith.

"We never get tired of winning trophies, and this one will definitely always be extra special for me."

Smith, 30, took just six minutes to make her mark, touching a cross from midfielder Kim Little over the line for the opening goal.

The lead should have been doubled two minutes later, but left winger Rachel Yankey ballooned the simplest of close-range chances high over the bar.

Doncaster recovered from their slow start to force their way into the match, but they rarely threatened and found themselves 2-0 down in the 33rd minute, Smith again forcing home a Little cross.

This time the Belles hit back more forcefully, but in quick succession winger Emily Heckler and striker Rachel Williams both missed the target from good positions.

Heckler wasted another good opening four minutes before the interval, sending a free header over the bar from right-back Chelsea Weston's cross.

Those misses proved costly as Smith completed her hat-trick with a ferocious 20-yard drive 13 minutes after the interval.

And nine minutes later she set up right back Alex Scott, also about to join Boston, to score Arsenal's fourth goal from a tight angle.

Substitute Suzanne Grant, making her debut after signing from Hibernian, completed the scoring with a 15-yard shot one minute from time.
