Manager wants York reality check

Martin Foyle
Foyle felt his side were naive in the Rushden game

York City manager Martin Foyle told his players they are not as good as they think after their performance in the 2-0 defeat at Rushden & Diamonds.

Foyle was angry with his side who are still just one point above the relegation zone in Blue Square Premier.

He told BBC Radio York: "Good players pressure, work hard and win second balls. I hope someone comes knocking on my door, I could drop any one of them.

"I thought tonight we think we're better than what we are."

"No disrespect, but they're non-league players and they need to wake up and smell the coffee a bit."

York City now face troubled Weymouth who had to field their youth team against Rushden & Diamonds after their players refused to play without insurance. Rushden won that game 9-0.

However Foyle is not taking anything from that in light of his side's form.

"If Weymouth put out 11 kids that have got enthusiasm and a little bit of passion for the game I think we're in for a game," he said.

"Our home form has turned a little bit, we've had a little bit of the rub of the green, played some good stuff. We just need to go back to basics. "

Foyle is threatening to make changes for the weekend.

He said: "I just said to the players does it hurt. You look around the changing room and sometimes talk is cheap in the changing room from players.

"You hear it but like you said, they just need that honesty to look themselves in the mirror and there's not many that could look in it."
