Martinez admitted: "Mauro has been adapting to the British game and, at the moment, it has been really, really difficult.
"I have always said we are lucky to have a player of Mauro's quality at our club, but he needs this opportunity to play because at the moment he cannot be the player he has been at Estudiantes over the past two seasons."
Earlier this week Boselli, who has missed Wigan's last two games with a hamstring injury, placed a message in Spanish on his Twitter page, which read: "Six months at Genoa. I am very happy."
The Italians, 13th in the Serie A table, will have an option to buy the Argentine at the end of his loan spell but Martinez is clear he wants Boselli to return to the DW Stadium.
"I am confident he will come back a better and stronger player after his stay in Italy. We wish him all the best over there and will be monitoring his progress weekly," stated Martinez.
