Colgan won nine caps for the Republic of Ireland over five years
Sunderland have signed veteran Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Nick Colgan on a free transfer.
Colgan, 34, was with Ipswich Town last season and admits he is looking forward to the prospect of joining up with compatriot Roy Keane on Wearside.
"It's a huge challenge I'm really looking forward to," Colgan told the club's official website.
"He [Keane] told me he wants to carry a good squad of goalkeepers and it's my job to bring my experience to others."
Colgan will compete for a place in the side with first-choice keeper Craig Gordon, Darren Ward and Marton Fulop, who has recently been linked with a move to Premier League newcomers Stoke City.
Having left his hometown team Drogheda United for Chelsea in 1992, Colgan has represented 12 British clubs including Hibernian and Barnsley.
