Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed they have turned down a transfer request from defender Peter Gilbert.
The 25-year-old was also the subject of an alleged illegal approach from Championship rivals and his former club Plymouth Argyle last week.
Owls manager Brian Laws told BBC Radio Sheffield: "Peter handed in his request on the eve of the new season.
"Unless we receive the right offer he stays here. At the moment I need him in my squad."
