Cummings worked with Brendan Rodgers at the Chelsea academy
Reading have announced that Shaun Cummings was signed from Chelsea before the transfer window closed.
The 20-year-old right-back has joined for an undisclosed fee, as Liam Rosenior exits the Madejski Stadium on a season-long loan to Ipswich.
Cummings was on loan at West Bromwich Albion, but will now join Reading on a permanent basis for three years.
Royals manager Brendan Rodgers worked with Cummings at Chelsea and described him as a "modern day full-back".
Rodgers said: "I'm excited to have him. I know him well, he has all the characteristics we want and I am sure he will be very successful.
"He's one for now and for the future as well. He worked very closely with me at Chelsea and then had a really successful time out on loan with the MK Dons last season.
"We're looking to change what we're doing here and, the way football works, that means some people come in and some people go."
