Walter Smith and Kris Boyd rewarded for Rangers form
Rangers pair pick up monthly awards
Rangers duo Walter Smith and Kris Boyd have been rewarded for their excellent performances last month.
Smith was named the Clydesdale Bank Premier League manager of the month for December, while in-form striker Boyd won the player award.
Rangers won six games out of six in December as they stretched their lead over Celtic to seven points.
And Boyd netted 11 goals as he overtook Henrik Larsson as the Scottish Premier League's record scorer.
Boyd, who has bagged 19 goals in the SPL this season, is expected to be out for four to six weeks after undergoing a successful hernia operation this week.
Smith waiting on Boyd contract response
And Rangers are continuing contract talks with the 26-year-old, whose current deal runs out in the summer.
The forward has been the subject of interest from several English sides, with Wigan, Birmingham and Middlesbrough all monitoring the situation at Ibrox.
Smith is currently working without a contract, after his deal expired this month.
The 61-year-old, who is in his second spell at the club, said he was happy to do this following the financial problems suffered by the Scottish champions.
