Danny Glover wants to show Port Vale's fans that he warrants a place in the starting line-up on merit.
Some supporters believe the 18-year-old striker is only being picked because his father, Dean, is the Vale manager.
Glover told BBC Radio Stoke: "People will always think [that] of me, but that's up to them. I have to prove to them that I deserve to be in the team.
"I have to work twice as hard in training during the week to know that I'm going to be involved."
He came on as a second-half substitute during Vale's 3-0 defeat at Grimsby on Saturday.
Glover has scored two goals this season, against Rochdale in December and Chester in January, but he expected more.

"I've underachieved this year," said Glover. "I expected to do better and get more games and goals.
"I don't know what's gone wrong this season, but I'll sit down at the end of it and assess what I've got to do and come back better.
"I've got an extra year here so hopefully I can push on and get an extension to my contract after that.
"I know the goals will come. I believe in myself, I just need a run in the team and my confidence will come back."
