Herbert played against the Cobblers in pre-season for Long Buckby
Northampton Town debutant Courtney Herbert says he is still in shock after starting, and scoring, for the club.
The 20-year-old striker hit the Cobblers' second goal in the 3-1 win over Rotherham on Tuesday.
Herbert told BBC Radio Northampton: "The fans have just been amazing. It's even more special for me because I'm from Northampton.
"But I'm going to keep my feet on the ground, work hard in training and do my best for Northampton Town."
Herbert's previous club was Long Buckby, in the United Counties League Premier Division. He signed a two-year deal after impressing on trial at Sixfields.
"I thought it was a wind-up when I got the phone call saying that the Cobblers wanted me to go on trial. But I knew I had to get my head down and focus."
The striker is undergoing an X-ray on his ribs, after sustaining an injury early in the second half of his debut.
"I don't want to be out for a couple of weeks. I want to be in the action playing football," he added.
