Liverpool linked with Duff
Damien Duff enjoyed a superb World Cup
Damien Duff enjoyed a superb World Cup
Liverpool are reportedly poised to make an £8m move for Blackburn's Republic of Ireland star Damien Duff.

Newspaper reports suggest that Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier is keen to lure Duff to Anfield, after the midfielder rejected a name-your-terms offer from the Blackburn board.

With Lee Bowyer expected to complete his £8m move to Liverpool on Thursday, the new deal would take the Merseysiders' summer spending to £35m.

Duff's decision to reject Rovers' new contract could prompt the Ewood Park club to offload the World Cup star as soon as possible, in an attempt to cash in on one of their prime assets.

As a result, Blackburn have reportedly given Duff permission to talk to Liverpool and a deal could be reached over the next 48 hours.

Duff's stock rocketed after an impressive World Cup where he shone for a Republic side that reached the last 16.

On Wednesday, Houllier declared that his summer spending spree would go on.

"It is good to be back," said Houllier, told the official club website.

"We have been busy in the summer and I am quite happy with the business we have done, but it is not finished yet.

"There will be more signings before the season starts."
