Butcher would be a hit - Jackson

Lincoln City manager Peter Jackson admits bringing midfielder Richard Butcher to the club for a third spell would go down well with the Imps' fans.

Recent speculation has linked the 28-year-old former Notts County midfielder with a return to Sincil Bank.

Jackson told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "I'm bound to be linked with Butcher, he was a real fans' favourite here.

"I've been linked with lots of players, a lot of it's absolute nonsense, some of it's true. So is it true? Maybe."

Butcher joined Lincoln from Kettering in November 2002 and made over 100 league appearances before signing for Oldham in the summer of 2005.

We've spoken to one or two people we have in mind, but other clubs have also got eyes on the players I'm looking at

Later that year he returned to Lincoln on a month's loan before moves to Peterborough and Notts County.

Other players being linked with the Imps are midfielder Jon Worthington, who played under Peter Jackson at Huddersfield, and ex-Lincoln loanee, Nottingham Forest defender Hamza Bencherif.

Jackson said: "We've spoken to one or two people we have in mind, but other clubs have also got eyes on the players I'm looking at.

"We'll have to be patient and hopefully that patience will pay off and we'll bring in some good players.

"Financially I'm looking at five or six new players so we'll assess things over the next couple of weeks."
