Midfielder Keith Gillespie has failed to earn a deal with League One Leeds United, BBC Radio Leeds understands.
The unattached Northern Ireland international, 34, had spent the past two weeks training with the club.
However United manager Simon Grayson has decided he has adequate cover in that position.
Meanwhile Australia international central defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley has returned to Newcastle Jets after an unsuccessful trial at Elland Road.
