Huddersfield Town's Tom Clarke extends his contract

Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town utility player Tom Clarke has signed a contract extension, keeping the 22-year-old at the club until the summer of 2012.

Clarke is out of action until at least Christmas as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.

He told the club website: "This contract is a massive thing for me - I love the club and it's nice to be rewarded with a new deal.

"It's a great feeling to have it signed and now I'm concentrating on my rehab."

"The negotiations started before the playoffs last season and as soon as i got injured, the club said they would stand by me."

Clarke tore ligaments in his right knee during the first leg of Huddersfield's playoff semi-final against Millwall in May, and is not expected to return until the early part of 2010.

Lee Clark

Manager Lee Clark said: "We made a commitment to Tom regarding a new contract last year following his very impressive run in the first team, and these have been reflected in the new contract.

"Unfortunately for him he was his enjoying his best spells in the side on the two occasions he has got injured like this.

"However, this contract extension is thoroughly deserved - it was a 'no-brainer' for us - and we all hope he kicks on again once he has overcome this problem.
