Ternent praises Parker's strike

Keigan Parker
Parker got his first Huddersfield goal on Saturday

Huddersfield Town boss Stan Ternent believes striker Keigan Parker's first goal for the club at the weekend "will do him the world of good".

The 25-year-old had been out of favour at the Galpharm Stadium but scored the winner in the 3-2 victory over Crewe.

"Keigan's had a few problems that have made it difficult for him to settle," Ternent told BBC Radio Leeds.

"But he seems to be coming to terms with them now and that goal will do him the world of good."

Parker's goal two minutes from time was his first for the club since his summer move from Blackpool, but his celebrations were short-lived as he was sent off for a second bookable offence in injury-time.

Ternent, who has yet to decide whether to appeal the sending-off, said: "The ball was up in the air and Keigan and the guy were running towards it.

"He [Crewe defender Julian Baudet] led with his foot high in the air I felt and Keigan took evasive action, the ball's hit him on the hand and that's two yellows which constitutes a red card. It's a difficult one to take.

The main thing is that we won and that will do more for the player's confidence than anything

"I asked Keigan if it was a deliberate hand-ball and he said it was a natural reaction to get his hand between his head and the other guy's boot.

"But it was a soft decision and the way it's going now. It's getting towards becoming a non-contact sport."

The sending-off was the only down side on an afternoon when Huddersfield picked up only their second home league win of the season.

"The main thing is that we won and that will do more for the player's confidence than anything and I thought they thoroughly deserved to win the game," Ternent said.
