Key leaves Histon coaching post

Histon

Histon have confirmed goalkeeping coach Lance Key has left the club as part of cost-cutting measures.

Key, 40, began his second spell with the Stutes back in 2004 and was the first-choice goalkeeper until the arrival of Danny Naisbitt last season.

Boss Steve Fallon confirmed the club are looking to make cuts, but dismissed concerns about the financial situation.

"There are no problems at this club, the directors will make sure we keep going in the right direction."

Histon are one of the few clubs in the Blue Square Premier to operate on a part-time basis, but have conducted a review of their spending in light of the current economic down turn.

"You do have to prepare given the current climate, so we've done that and done it early," Fallon said.

"Our attendances are down so we're looking to make savings where we can."

Key was working with the Stutes on a non-contract basis and Fallon admits he was a luxury the club could no longer afford.

"We've spoken to Lance, he understands the situation and maybe in the future he will be back helping us out.

Fallon has also moved to quash internet speculation that Histon are in serious financial trouble.

"We're no different to any other club and any talk of administration is obviously wishful thinking on some peoples' part," he said.
