Hibernian have rejected an undisclosed offer from Nottingham Forest for their captain Rob Jones.
The SPL club feel the Championship outfit's bid is short of their valuation for Jones, who was given the day off from training on Monday.
The Edinburgh side have also rebuffed two approaches from Colchester United for the 29-year-old this month.
The League One club's improved offer for the English defender was in excess of £100,000.
However, U's boss Paul Lambert told BBC Scotland that he had not given up hope of signing the player before Tuesday's 1700 GMT deadline.
Jones has made over 100 appearances for Hibs since arriving on a free transfer from Grimsby in June 2006.
The 6ft 7in centre-back also captained the club to their first piece of silverware in 16 years, when the team won the Scottish League Cup in 2007.
Meanwhile, Celtic target Steven Fletcher trained as usual with the Hibernian first-team squad on Monday morning.
On Friday, Hibs rejected an approach from the Glasgow club to open talks over a possible transfer for the 21-year-old striker.
