Gills' Chris Dickson frustrated at Charlton lay-off

Gillingham's on-loan striker Chris Dickson has admitted he is frustrated not to be playing against his parent club Charlton on Saturday.

The Addicks agreed to loan the 25-year-old to the Gills on the condition he would not play against them.

"I'd love to play to show the fans what I can do as it's been a funny period at Charlton," Dickson told BBC Radio Kent.

"It was a dream to move there, but I haven't really played as much as I wanted to and it's hard."

He added: "There's always a part of you that definitely wants to play. I wanted to play when I was at Bristol Rovers and I want to play now I'm at Gillingham.

"At the end of the day there's nothing better than trying to prove people wrong and going back and showing what you can do.

The boys know each other really well, it's down to who's the best team on the day

"I ran it by the gaffer but he said 'no, Charlton are having none of it'."

Dickson will however be present at the Valley on Saturday and admits he will have split loyalties.

"It's going to be strange but I'll definitely be there," he said. "I'd have to stay on the middle ground and say may the best team win.

"It's basically a local derby. I think the boys know each other really well and like I said it's down to who's the best team on the day and fingers crossed. You never know, it could be the Gills."
