Crofts is now playing non-league football at Wrexham
Former Gillingham captain Andrew Crofts has said he thinks his career at Priestfield came to an end for non-footballing reasons.
Crofts started the season as the Gills' captain, but fell out of favour with manager Mark Stimson, losing both the captaincy and his place in the side.
The Welsh international is currently on-loan at Wrexham until his contract runs out at the end of the season.
Crofts says: "It's not for football reasons. I think everyone knows that."
Speaking to BBC Radio Kent he added: "It's happened and you just have to get on with it really.
"I was disappointed with how things happened, but obviously you just want to get on with it as a professional."
Crofts, who made 191 appearances for Gillingham, was disappointed a deal could not be worked out with League One side Peterborough, after a loan spell there earlier in the season, and instead moved to Blue Square Premier side Wrexham.
