Former Stoke City manager Gudjon Thordarson has confirmed he has contacted Crewe about becoming the new manager of the Alex.
The Cheshire club are looking for a new boss after Steve Holland was relieved of his duties last week.
Thordarson told BBC Radio Stoke: "I've spoken to people at Crewe.
"I know what would be required, you need to coach the youngsters and have managerial skills as well. I think I'm equipped to do the job."
The former Iceland national team manager joined the Potters in 1999, leading them to the Football League Trophy in 2000.
He then led the Potters to promotion via the play-offs in 2002, but left the club in the same summer after his contract was not renewed.
The 53-year-old went on to have spells in charge of Barnsley and Notts County before returning to his homeland to manage Akranes in 2006.
"When I moved back to Iceland, I wasn't considering returning to the English game," said Thordarson.
"Crewe is a good club that survives by making footballers. That is a good way to run a club and one reason why the job interests me."
