Coventry City left-back Gary Borrowdale is expected to be out of action for up to six weeks after suffering ruptured ankle ligaments.
Scans revealed the extent of the damage that occurred during Tuesday evening's 3-0 defeat by Watford.
Manager Iain Dowie told the club's website: "Gary felt his ankle go after a tackle but tried to carry on for five minutes before he had to come off.
"He's ruptured ligaments and that takes four to six weeks to recover from."
Borrowdale was not the Sky Blues' only casualty of Tuesday as Stephen Hughes suffered a depressed fracture of the cheekbone, making him doubtful for Saturday's game against Colchester.
