Player-coach Gary Holt has parted company with Colchester United.
The 36-year-old midfielder joined Colchester from Wycombe in July after a two-year spell at Adams Park.
The former Scotland international previously played for Kilmarnock, Norwich and Nottingham Forest after starting his career with Stoke City.
"Gary came to see me and said he thought it would be best for both parties for him to move on," U's boss Aidy Boothroyd told the club's website.
"I know Gary from our time at Norwich and there was no animosity, I respect his decision.
"We have parted on good terms and I will wish him well for the future."
