Colchester manager Geraint Williams has said the team's relegation will not be down to a lack of fire-power up front.
The U's are the eighth-highest scorers in the Championship, but are 13 points from league survival.
Following their 4-3 defeat to West Brom Williams told BBC Essex: "We have scored goals [and] the ratio of the scorers has been excellent.
"Unfortunately different individuals and different groups haven't been able to defend well enough."
"We seem to have done it all season. We defend so well and then have a mad five minutes and it has cost us games."
Despite defeat for the bottom of the table side, Williams was proud of his player's performance against promotion chasing West Brom.
He said: "There was a lot of great performances out there and I don't use that word lightly.
"To get 2-0 up an then come in 2-2 at half-time, everyone was down and disappointed.
"But we dug in and said we've all got to go again for 45 minutes at the Hawthorns and the lads did and they were magnificent."
