Chester City owner Stephen Vaughan has dismissed reports that he is poised to buy fellow League Two club Darlington.
Newspaper reports in the North East had suggested Vaughan was set to buy the administration hit club along with former Quakers owner George Houghton.
"I can categorically say that the reports and rumours are way off the mark," said Vaughan.
"My focus is still with Chester City and our objective of staying in the Football League."
However, Vaughan has admitted that he was approached by Houghton in respect of a possible takeover at the Darlington Arena.
"I was approached by George Houghton about various issues and we had a conversation but that was basically it," said Vaughan.
In March, Vaughan stated his intention to sell his controlling interest in Chester to Liverpool-based property developer Gary Metcalf, but that deal is yet to go through.
Chester are due to entertain Darlington at the Deva Stadium on the final day of the season, in a game that could decide City's League status. But they will be relegated to Conference football for the second time in nine years as early as this Saturday if they lose at Aldershot.
