Vaughan denies Chester sale claim

Chester City

Chester City owner Stephen Vaughan has dismissed reports suggesting a deal has been done to sell the club to businessman John Batchelor.

City were put up for sale on Monday, but Vaughan said that while he has spoken to Batchelor and other parties, no deal has been stuck.

"We have agreed nothing," Vaughan told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"If you don't speak to the owner of the football club you're not going to be able to purchase it."

Batchelor, who has been linked with takeovers of Mansfield and Accrington already this year, has indicated that if he were to gain control of the club he would change the name to Harchester United, after a fictional television football team.

That suggestion has been dismissed by the current Chester owner, who insisted that no deal has been agreed with any interested observers.

Vaughan added: "I won't relinquish control until I know that the party taking over can assure me that they're going to take this club forward."
